Open source license

Starchart is intended to be released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0-or-later). The AGPL requires that people who interact with the running software over a network can access the corresponding source code.

Swiss Ephemeris

Astrological calculations are powered by Swiss Ephemeris through the sweph package. Swiss Ephemeris is dual-licensed by Astrodienst AG. Starchart's launch path uses the AGPL-compatible open-source license path.

GeoNames city data

City data provided by GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

Maps

Interactive maps use MapLibre GL JS with map tiles/styles provided by MapTiler. Map and tile provider terms apply to the map data and hosted tile services.

Trademarks

The Starchart name and brand marks are not granted by the software license. TODO before public launch: finalize trademark and brand-use language if the repository is made public.
